Do Australians need a visa for Ghana?

Yes — Australian passport holders need a visa for Ghana, and since 25 May 2026 it's issued electronically. The new eVisa is especially good news for Australians: the old process meant posting your passport to the Ghana High Commission in Canberra and waiting weeks. Most Australians reach Accra via Dubai, Doha or Johannesburg from the east-coast capitals or Perth — a long haul, which makes a bounced visa application even more painful. Your eVisa should be approved before departure, because the airline checks it at check-in.

How it works

Five steps from enquiry to approved eVisa. We handle the fiddly parts — you plan Accra, Kakum and Cape Coast.

STEP 1

Tell us your trip

Complete our simplified form — about 10 minutes, in plain English, with examples for every field.

STEP 2

Upload documents

Passport bio page, photo, yellow fever certificate, travel plans. We check every file before lodgement.

STEP 3

We fix & lodge

We correct common rejection triggers (blurry scans, mismatched dates) and lodge on the official system.

STEP 4

We track it

You get status updates by email or WhatsApp. If immigration asks for more, we handle the back-and-forth.

STEP 5

eVisa delivered

Your approved eVisa arrives by email. Print it or present it digitally at boarding and on arrival.

Why Australian travellers use us instead of going direct

You can absolutely apply yourself at evisa.immigration.gov.gh — we say so at the top of every page. Here's the value we add for US$35.

🛡️ Rejection-proofing

Applications bounce for avoidable reasons: blurry passport scans, photos that don't meet spec, missing yellow fever certificates. We catch these before lodgement — and because the US$260 government fee is non-refundable once paid, a bounced DIY application is an expensive mistake.

💬 A human who answers

The official portal has no one to call — and Accra is 10 hours behind Sydney, so portal problems surface overnight. With us you get email and WhatsApp support from a real person, run from New Zealand in your time zone. Reach us at support@ghanaevisa.org.

🆕 We know the new system

Ghana's eVisa portal launched on 25 May 2026, replacing High Commission applications almost overnight. We work in the new system every day, so your application follows this week's rules — not a pre-2026 blog post.

What Australian travellers need

The official system asks for more than most travellers expect. Have these ready — we'll tell you if anything needs fixing.
